This project aims to develop a ceramic coating for sanitary ware with antibacterial and hydrophobic properties.

This coating was developed based on inorganic materials suitable and compatible with the current industrial methods used in the ceramic industry. The coating consists of a solid suspension for application by pistol or immersion of the parts to be coated. The materials used show a strong adhesion to the substrate and allow an increase in the hydrophobicity of the ceramic surface and the addition of molecules that can confer antibacterial properties to the coating (which act by disintegrating the outer membrane of bacteria).

The coating aggregates the potentially synergistic effect of the antibacterial and hydrophobic properties of the surface, which led to a reduction in the concentration of bacteria on the surface of toilets, as well as a reduction in water consumption and detergents needed for its cleaning due to the self-cleaning character of the surface.
